Casey Vaasjo Mediation Services and the South Shore Community Justice Society put together an Awesome pitch for the Awesome Foundation South Shore's pitch night on January 31st!
We were hoping to win the $1000 with our 4-minute pitch to bring Non-Violent Communication training to all of the invaluable volunteers who make possible the Restorative Justice program on the South Shore. Restorative Justice (RJ) brings together community members affected by crime. In an RJ session, those who are charged with a crime referred from the court or the crown, or a pre-charge referral from the police meet with the person or people who were affected by their crime. The Justice Society's volunteers facilitate dialogue between the parties with the intention of reducing harm caused and finding a just way forward together.
We are excited to add the specialized and impactful facilitation skills encompassed by Non-Violent Communication - specifically the ability to hear through the language of blame and judgement to the feelings and unmet human needs being expressed at its core - to the tool belts of all RJ mediators to help them become more confident and effective in sessions.
While we didn't win the $1000 this time around - we will certainly be pitching again as soon as we can!
